Principal Consultant – Flood & Coastal Resilience

The team is made up of Chartered Engineers and Environmental Consultants who boast a wealth of experience having worked in consultancy for many years. Our team of experts deliver Flood and Coastal solutions for Industrial, Retail, Residential, Commercial Developments and Public challenges throughout the UK.


About the Role

You will be part of an established but growing UK team with links to Business Line Water’s global presence. You will work closely with our Leading Professional in Flood and Coastal Resilience and other senior staff to expand our services to domestic and international clients. The team has a particular focus on and track record in the exchange of innovative water solutions between the Netherlands and the UK. You will help develop these successfully applied innovations, and new emerging ones, into commercially viable services. You will use your network and skills to seek out opportunities as well as respond effectively to tenders received.


Main Work Areas:

  • You will work across a broad Flood and Coastal Management (FCM) scope, including policy and strategy development, engineering, funding, stakeholder engagement and R&D.
  • Provide technical input and project direction on a portfolio of projects and proposals, delivering projects on time and budget and creating sustainable client relationships.
  • Develop new methods and innovations including digital tools, both to improve project work and as services to clients.
  • Work with our Leading Professional to turn successful innovations into commercially viable services, and take a leading role on these.
  • Be responsible for identifying opportunities.
  • Provide technical support, staff development and mentoring for more junior colleagues.
  • Link and work collaboratively with other senior staff across RHDHV in the UK and worldwide.
  • Help raise the company’s profile through presentations, social media, networking and other client-facing activities

  • Have worked within / close to FCM in a complex setting, for example in coastal management, business case development, strategic consultancy, development of methods & tools.
  • Are chartered or equivalent (CEnv, CSci or CEng)
