The Challenge

The heart of tech innovation

Eindhoven is at the centre of Brainport Eindhoven, a region of the Netherlands dedicated to technology innovation with more than 5,000 organisations working together on ground-breaking research and development.

This combination of technology, knowledge, and creativity draws talented workers, aspirational students, and forward-thinking companies to the city – from the Netherlands and beyond.

Eindhoven wants to be a data-driven municipality that is fully trusted by stakeholders.

To achieve this, the city needed a clear vision of how to build data capabilities and use its data most effectively, so its leaders approached Novius, a Royal HaskoningDHV company, for expert support.

The approach

A comprehensive data plan

We worked with the city of Eindhoven to develop a data strategy that contains the how, the why, and the what for the data programme.

Eindhoven’s vision and goals have been translated into a seven-track change plan that outlines the city’s next steps, covering:

  • Data governance
  • Data organisation
  • Competencies
  • Architecture and technology
  • Data quality
  • Security and Privacy
  • Data use

The team can now use this framework to inform its decisions about the city’s future and investments.

The impact

High ambitions, actionable plans

The city of Eindhoven has used its new data strategy to build a future-proofed data capability, boosting the level of insight it can derive from all the city’s different initiatives.

This, in turn, has increased the value leaders can deliver for its citizens, entrepreneurs, educational institutions, and visitors.
