THE CHALLENGE
From reactive to proactive IT
If Makro was to fulfil its ambitions, the company’s IT department would need to change from being a reactive, fire-fighting function to a proactive, trusted business partner – one that provides strategic insights to the wider organisation.
To accomplish this, the company had to build a modern, flexible organisation that would help align IT services with the business’s overall demands, future-proof the department and enable it to contribute to the business in a more targeted way.
THE APPROACH
The Business Transformation Framework
We worked alongside a core team of Makro’s IT formal and informal leaders to discuss the department’s needs, current shortcomings and future ambitions, before implementing our Business Transformation Framework.
Our priority was to understand the gap between where the department is now and where it wants to be. We then set about building a roadmap to implement the improvements that would help close that gap between IT services, processes, organization, competences, functions / roles, way of working, data, IT4IT – and, in the long-term, help Makro realise its greater ambitions.
THE IMPACT
The first steps to success
The change portfolio we created has helped Makro IT identify where its transformation priorities should lie. With this new visibility, the company’s Board of Directors has been able to greenlight investments aimed at increasing its IT capabilities.
Each of these new capabilities will play a vital role in futureproofing Makro’s IT department and enabling it to support the company’s strategic vision. With every stage of the roadmap it reaches, the company gets one step closer to becoming the number-one wholesaler in the Netherlands.
