About the Dublin Ringsend WWTP process proving step 1 and 2

To confirm the suitability of the Aerobic Granular Sludge technology at the Ringsend conditions a two-step approach was being used:

  • Process Proving Step 1 (PPS1): comprising of a semi-technical unit to scale (5 m3/d) for process proving and process optimisation.
  • Process Proving Step 2 (PPS2): comprising of the retrofit of one of the 24 existing SBR cells into an AGS system for validation of the process design and verification of the technical construction procedures.
Water treatment facility
Following the pilot-scale test of the Nereda technology, the retrofit of one of the existing SBR cells with Nereda internals and Aqua Suite Nereda Controller has been completed in 2017. This Nereda cell has been in operation since June 2017.

The existing ICEAS SBR Cell has a designed capacity of 38,000 PE and the retrofit under Process Proving Step 2 increases this capacity to 94,000 PE.
