Faro-Olhão WWTP is situated on the Algarve, in southern Portugal, and is the first deployment of Nereda by utilities consortium Acciona Agua/Oliveiras in the country. Águas do Algarve’s Faro-Olhão WWTP is the first full-scale greenfield Nereda installation treating complete flow in Southern Europa and represents the largest investment in water sanitation that has been made in the Algarve. It is also one of the largest in Portugal to date. The Faro-Olhão WWTP contract was awarded to the consortium in April 2016. The new project uses an advanced process of biological treatment, filtering and disinfection. It serves a population equivalent of 113,200 and allows the treatment of a maximum daily flow of 28,820 cubic metres.

WEX Global 2019 – the Water & Energy Exchange – is one of the key events of the water conference calendar. The summit, held in the Solverde Hotel in Gaia, Greater Porto, encourages business meetings and conversations, along with the exchange of ideas and philosophies, of business cards, solutions and methodologies. This year the event played host to more than 80 expert speakers, from over 40 countries, and offered a range of sessions and workshops highlighting the most current topics from across the international water and energy sector.

This latest accolade at the WEX Global Awards for a Nereda facility is further endorsement of the technology’s effectiveness, but also highlights its suitability for a range of locations and climates. Nereda continues to attract attention and awards, and is now proving to be a formidable player on the global stage.
