The Nereda wastewater treatment project at Utrecht is a city centre installation. The contractor Heijmans-GMB, together with the client, Waterboard Stichtse Rijnlanden, is working with Royal HaskoningDHV, the developers of the Nereda technology. The contract includes design, construction, commissioning, maintenance of the plant for 10 years and ongoing operational support.

Every year since 2006 the Global Water Awards have been presented as part of the annual Global Water Summit. The awards acknowledge the most important achievements and technological breakthroughs in the water sector globally. This year’s event will be held at the Natural History Museum in London on 9 April, with the award winners announced during the event’s gala dinner.

Commenting on the shortlisting announcement, René Noppeney, Global Director of Water Technology Products & Innovation at Royal HaskoningDHV said: “We are very proud to have been shortlisted in these prestigious awards. Utrecht WwTW is the forerunner of other large-scale Nereda plants currently being installed. With its small footprint, high effluent quality, low power consumption and bio P removal, Nereda technology is an established game-changer for sustainable wastewater technology. We now have over 65 Nereda projects completed or being delivered across the world, offering the perfect solution for countries facing growing urbanisation and improved environmental protection.”

Voting for the awards has now commenced and votes can be cast until 9pm GMT on Monday 25 March 2019.
