Nereda helps provide Sustainable wastewater treatment for the city of Utrecht

Sustainable wastewater treatment
Join Maxime von Wiggen, process engineer at Water Authority De Stichtse Rijnlanden, on a tour of Utrecht wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). At Utrecht WWTP, Nereda technology has been successfully introduced to enable the wastewater from 430,000 people to meet strict effluent requirements, within a compact plant.
The award-winning plant has been operational since 2019 and is situated in the heart of the city. It treats the wastewater from Utrecht and its surrounding villages. It has been designed to treat 65 million litres per day, which can increase to 30 million litres an hour during heavy rainwater conditions. It also removes twice as much nitrogen and phosphorus (TN 5.0 mg/l and TP 0.5 mg/l) as the original plant but is faster and up to 30% more energy efficient.
