Customised method fits client’s needs and ambitions

To align sustainability efforts across the organisation globally, Booking.com needed to measure and compare the sustainability of its international offices. Royal HaskoningDHV developed a customised method which the client can use across the entire portfolio.

The method combines the best of major sustainable building accreditation schemes (such as BREEAM, LEED, WELL and Fitwel) and is tailored to our client’s needs and ambition. It draws on our expert knowledge of measurement tools for sustainable buildings as well as input from in-depth workshops with our client. Collaboration with our in-house experts on topics including energy installations, healthy workplaces and sustainable materials also helped in creating the tailor-made method for our client.

A building sustainability scorecard for the entire portfolio

The method is visualised in a scorecard which represents the sustainability of the office on four impact categories: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle; Energy; Health & Wellbeing; and Role Model. Within the impact categories, we formulated criteria and prerequisites for design, renovation/fit-out, technical installations and use phase of the building.

The scorecard is a hands-on tool, which can be used by our client itself to rate the sustainability of new office fit-out projects.

Through this custom scorecard, our client is now able to quantify and improve the sustainability of their building portfolio in line with their overarching sustainability ambitions.
