Royal HaskoningDHV developed site layouts, with Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRU) being considered in the analysis, after which the Son My site was chosen. This was quickly followed by a full feasibility study, including surveys (such as topographic, bathymetric and geotechnical), a seismic study, and process simulation.

Royal HaskoningDHV also completed a nautical risk assessment, optimisation studies, and the jetty and breakwater basic design.

Capacity is planned to increase to 6 to 10 mtpa in Phase 2 to supply gas to customers in the central and southern region of Vietnam. The client presented the full feasibility study documents at public hearings. The QRA provided an insight in the operational risks of the terminal and contributed to the public acceptance of the project.
