The King Salman International Complex for Maritime Industries and Services is part of the Kingdom’s current National Industrial Strategy to Focus on Economic Diversification.  The Complex is envisioned to be a world class maritime yard providing a combination of new shipbuilding and maintenance, repair and operations services including Very Large Crude Carrier capabilities.

The complex will be the largest in the world providing this range of services.  Covering an area of approx. 4.5km by 2.5km it boasts an impressive range of facilities including, fully-equipped shipbuilding and ship repair VLCC size dry docks, basins, piers, a shiplift system, workshops, warehouses, utility services areas, office buildings, worker living and recreational facilities.

The consortium developed the FEED for the entire yard production facilities and detailed engineering of the Maritime works contract, through to award of construction contracts and ongoing technical support during the execution phase.

Royal HaskoningDHV’s specialist shipyard consultancy experience, combined with Hyundai’s track record in successfully delivering Engineering-Procurement-Construction (EPC) projects, provided the Client with comprehensive technical knowledge for all elements of shipyard design and procurement. In this process the Shipyard was optimised providing CAPEX and OPEX savings.

Royal HaskoningDHV has worked with Saudi Aramco since 2014 when it undertook the initial market study. The consortium was appointed in 2016 and the first major marine works contract commenced on site in 2017. EPC packages will be awarded in 2018 and overall completion is planned for 2022.
