While the world waits anxiously for a vaccine to combat Covid-19, preparations are being fast-tracked to manufacture and store huge quantities for mass immunisation. One project involves constructing a new 700m3 freezer storage in the Netherlands to be available late spring 2021.
The project is being undertaken by our client, a global pharmaceutical company involved in research, development and production of new treatments and medicines. Royal HaskoningDHV has been contracted to plan, design and implement the project within the demanding timeframe.
Timings compressed for quicker result while adhering to safety protocols
“What makes this project complex is the time pressure.” explained Leon Blokker, Senior Project Manager, Royal HaskoningDHV. “To meet our client’s requirements, we are working with them to compress the usual roadmap while still meeting validation demands. In addition, some processes are being carried out in parallel, so the contractor can start work more quickly. We can work in this way because of our deep knowledge and the trust that has built up between our companies.”
Knowledge and long partnership lead to smarter, client-focused solutions
Royal HaskoningDHV has been working with this pharmaceutical company for more than 15 years. Since 2014, our on-site team has become embedded within the business handling about 50 projects annually. These have included upgrading clean rooms and laboratories as well as expanding the capacity of softened water installations in line with GMP requirements, refurbishing the water pipeline infrastructure, and replacing ventilation in a robotised GMP high-rise warehouse.
“Ensuring production continues during the execution of these projects requires lots of communication to get the job done well,” said Leon. “Because we are familiar with our client’s activities and work directly in the environment, we can do projects more efficiently in terms of time and cost. It is this deep understanding that enables us to work with in partnership to define and identify the best approach and, as in the vaccine storage project, meet demanding user requirements.”
