The Sedibeng brewery in Johannesburg, a joint venture between Heineken and Diageo, was the first South African Heineken brewery. The construction began in May 2008 and was completed in July 2010, three months quicker than any other similar sized / capacity brewery in the world.

Royal HaskoningDHV was responsible for the preparation of the Project Data Book, design consultancy, design management, quality control, cost management and construction management for this project. With over 40 earlier brownfield and greenfield breweries projects, the engineers of Royal HaskoningDHV were able to apply lessons learned in earlier projects to make sure the project was finished within budget and ahead of schedule.
The ‘fast track’ project involved the construction of 21 production buildings, including a silo, production and bottling facilities, warehousing and a waste water treatment plant. Construction in Phase 1 included 45,000m3 of concrete poured, laying of 2.3 million bricks, 6,200 tons of reinforcing steel were installed and 5,000 tons of structural steel were erected.
