Project facts

  • Client
    TSM Perrottet AG
  • Period
    2018 - 2019
  • Location
    Lake Geneva, Switzerland
  • Solution
Detailed design for the intake and outfall system which met the end user’s requirements and which optimised the pipe strings for both stability and ease of installation.
  • Challenge
To provide technical expertise on the installation and stability design for a 500mmOD SDR26 intake pipeline and 250mmOD SDR17 outfall pipeline discharging in approximately 70m water depth.
The project required the detailed design of an intake and outfall pipeline in Lausanne on Lake Geneva, Switzerland. Lake water was to be drawn via an intake head and pipeline to connect to an onshore pumping station. It was then used in a factory cooling system before being discharged back into the lake through the outfall pipeline.

The challenge

TSM Perrottet AG appointed Royal HaskoningDHV to provide technical expertise on the installation and stability design for a 500mmOD SDR26 intake pipeline and 250mmOD SDR17 outfall pipeline discharging in approximately 70m water depth in Lake Geneva, Lausanne, Switzerland.

The project requires lake water to be drawn via an intake head and intake pipeline connected to an onshore pumping station to use lake water as part of a factory cooling system. The outfall pipeline returns used water to the lake for dispersion. Due to the depth of the pipeline the challenge was to design a pipeline which could be safely installed with minimal or no input by saturation diving.

The solution

Royal HaskoningDHV provided TSM Perrottet AG with a detailed design for the intake and outfall system which met the end user’s requirements and which optimised the pipe strings for both stability and ease of installation.

The comprehensive design package issued to the Client which maximises the use of standardised design elements, off site construction techniques and the use of prefabricated units. Services to the Client included:

  • Geotechnical design (inshore trench and on land connection).
  • Pipeline design and stability.
  • Installation analysis and Methodology.
  • Review of intake head configuration.
  • Review of joints and connection details.

The result

Our specialist design and consultancy services allowed the client to make confident decisions in the implementation of the project. We provided a cost-effective installation solution which helped to establish a strong working relationship with TSM Perrottet AG.
