When it came to the marine scope of the project, Foster Wheeler hired Royal HaskoningDHV to deploy our 140 years of experience as a world-leader in maritime consultancy.

The Challenge

Refineries and their associated terminals require access to water. On this project, water access supported a range of essential functions including:

  • Importation of feedstock
  • Importation of raw materials
  • Export of product
  • Support industrial processing cooling through marine intakes and outfalls
  • Construction material harbour

The scale and magnitude of the facility, the shallow nature of the approach, the need to maintain vessels operations in the face of challenging wave conditions, marine ground conditions, the continuity of water supply, evolving needs from construction to operation, all with a physical constraint site.

The solution

We combine our expertise in terminal masterplanning, coastal engineering, structural geotechnical, foundation engineering, and marine pipeline engineering to develop a comprehensive marine solution. This addressed the physical challenges of the site and optimised the layout to make efficient use of materials. Having one of the largest specialist maritime teams in the world give us the ability to draw on global expertise makes Royal HaskoningDHV uniquely positioned to solve our client's challenges.
