LNG is a unique fuel that requires particular conditions and expertise to store, manage and maintain. Royal HaskoningDHV has proudly supported the planning, design or construction supervision of more than 50 LNG terminals since 1999.
Through our experience, we understand the unique differences and challenges in the LNG sector - whether it's the importance of strong project management due to large investments involved, or the role of standards and quality assurance.
In this project, Royal HaskoningDHV were enlisted to improve upon the mooring design of the FSRU.
Applying our decades of expertise, Royal HaskoningDHV developed an alternative mooring design solution compared with the solution suggested in the tender, by carrying out extensive dynamic mooring analysis; eventually designing a fixed berth for a permanently moored FSRU in unsheltered conditions. The berth is a conventional jetty mooring, consisting of fixed mooring and breasting dolphins. This solution was offered as alternative to the project owner, who has envisioned a much more expensive “tower yoke” mooring solution during their initial project design.
This alternative mooring system was accepted by the client which reduced construction costs by 50%.
Teamwork and collaboration were key to the entire project - from the mooring analyses to the detailed design and construction supervision between our Indonesia office and experts in Europe.
The outcomeThe result of the completed project is the creation of Asia and Indonesia's first offshore FSRU terminal. In 2012 the construction works were completed and the FSRU put in place and the facility has been operational without major issues ever since.
