In suburban neighbourhood of Bergen, Norway, a new cycle and footbridge has been commissioned to cross a busy street and a railway track. The state authority, Statens vegvesen, was looking for a maintenance free design that can withstand extreme weather and de-icing salt agents. What’s more, steel was excluded because it would interfere with the overhead line from the trains.
We designed a hybrid truss with cable stays made for 100% out of Fibre Reinforced Polymers. The modern design of the truss relays in a contemporary way to the industrial rail architecture.
