The City of Parramatta, located in the west of Sydney CBD is the demographic centre of metropolitan Sydney. The City has actively been seeking to re-engage with the River. The Parramatta River continues to be identified in state and local strategic documents as a key asset of the City and its potential is incrementally being addressed through individual public domain projects by Council and private developers.
Royal HaskoningDHV are working with designers to restore the City of Parramatta riverfront, creating a high quality recreation and event space. Royal HaskoningDHV are providing flood risk, water management and foreshore engineering advice for the master plan.
Royal HaskoningDHV are ensuring that due care is taken when designing for change in a flood prone environment. Flood modelling is being undertaken to inform design and test for impacts to flooding. A 1D-2D linked model was developed to represent the final concept design. Changes to the hydraulic function of the river were identified and appropriate design integrated.
Royal HaskoningDHV have worked collaboratively with both designer and Council to ensure flood risk and water management was considered throughout design. The close working relationship, primarily manifest through site design workshops allowed good practice to be applied and ensured the design did not adversely impact on flood risk.
