With the completion of this office, Amsterdam’s position as a world leader in circular building grows ever stronger. Furthermore, we are located on the outskirts of the Haven-Stad, the future site of 40.000 new dwellings that will be built according to circular building principles. This office building strikingly sets the benchmark for these future real-estate developments.
Alderman Abdeluheb Choho
This citation eloquently summarizes what RHDHV was looking for when developing their new office space in Amsterdam: a building and a site that tie into social and urban developments such as sustainability, circularity and health.
Contactweg 47 is an industrial building in Sloterdijk with a rectangular floor plan. The building is now in its third phase of use following its past funtions as a warehouse for “Van Gend en Loos” and as a Volkswagen garage. The concrete structure currently houses sixty “incubators” (small work spaces), a “makerspace”, a small theater, a restaurant and Royal HaskoningDHV’s new office space.
The office space is made up of a single open area with high ceiling and ample natural light. The space can hold up to 100 employees. The “makerspace”, theater, and restaurant are accessible to the public.
The interior of the office space, the dimensions and building services were designed by Royal HaskoningDHV in a dynamic process, whereby circularity and energy-neutral building played a crucial role.
