Efficient and effective design of a new US$100m pharmaceutical facility in Indonesia enabled all requirements to be met within the target budget and has reduced production and operational costs.
Our client, a global pharmaceutical company, was looking to expand its market in Asia with its first sterile injection plant in Indonesia. The local production of high quality, affordable infusion solutions minimises Indonesia’s dependence on imported products and provides opportunities for export across the region. Annual production capacity was planned for 15 million units in the first phase, rising to 50 million.
Smart design enables requirements to be met within budget
Royal HaskoningDHV was responsible for the sterile injection production building and warehouse, as well as office, customs and utility buildings together with technical installations such as water and fuel storage. We provided concept design to detailed design, incorporating architectural, civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering services.
Considerable efficiencies and smart design were required to translate the concept into a constructable design which met requirements within budget. The solution includes buildings which reflect our client’s brand and the local environment, blending tropical detail with the architectural style of our client’s head office.
We were responsible for managing the project, overseeing the tender and contract process and construction management. A site-based team helped to ensure quality and safety on site and that targets and timings were met. Sophisticated engineering of the clean room ensured a hygienic internal and external environment which meets the client’s requirements and those of the Indonesian National Agency of Drug and Food control (BPOM) as well as worldwide standards. The plant was opened on schedule in 2017.
