Our financial services client has a huge real estate portfolio across retail, data centres and office environments in many countries. It is undertaking a major transformational programme to ensure the portfolio supports its broader strategic vision. This involves ensuring office buildings and retail premises visibly reinforce the brand and its values. They need to be modern and inspiring, attractive for both visitors and employees, and consume less energy.

Halving energy consumption

An example of how this works in practice is seen in our client’s sustainability target to comply with the Paris climate agreement by 2030. To do so, it needs to halve energy consumption across its portfolio. Together with our client and stakeholders, we ran ambition workshops to produce a roadmap for the strategic objectives. It includes actions, milestones and the final goal definition. Then, to guide quick, informed decision making, we developed standardised programme requirements for offices. These incorporate an interactive simulation model providing early insight into spatial and financial impacts.

Our particular ways of working bring added value for our client. Interactive methodologies create new insight into opportunities and, by designing in a more human-centred way, we increase business agility to deliver a faster time to market.

Innovations are being explored through a structured process that includes setting up and implementing pilot studies in collaboration with our multi-disciplinary team and an exhibition to share knowledge.
