Cost estimating and cost structure analysis

To help shipyards improve their competiveness we regularly undertake cost structure reviews. The existing structure of ship cost is analysed and compared with what needs to be achieved to succeed in the shipyard’s future marketplace. The results of the analysis, which considers both direct and overhead costs, forms the basis for setting performance and productivity targets for the shipyard.

We also undertake estimates and validation of estimates for the design and construction of naval and commercial vessels. Reliable cost estimating in new shipyards and for unusual designs can be difficult as the degree to which shipyard productivity drops away from core productivity is hard to predict. We have developed techniques for making these predictions and have used them to reliably estimate the cost of designing and constructing vessels for government and non-government organisations.

We are able to draw on our estimating techniques and in-depth knowledge of all aspects of shipyard operations to estimate the structure of ship cost remotely, without the cooperation of the shipyards concerned. This information has been used to help inform international trade disputes.
