Shipyard feasibility study

Royal HaskoningDHV was commissioned to develop a design for a major new shipyard in Libya to carry out shipbuilding and repair. The project started with an initial market study and site selection and concluded with the tender design of the whole shipyard. The first stage of the design was to establish a masterplan of the shipyard which provided an efficient and productive operational layout. The scope of the design encompassed the civil engineering elements including the structures, dredging and navigation, together with the mechanical and electrical design, workshops, office buildings, roadways and paving.

The shipyard was designed to be capable of repairing two Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) in two large dry docks. Shipbuilding launch facilities were provided by means of a twin marine railway. We produced a 3D computer visualization of the shipyard and a 2m x 3m physical model. We also provided assistance to the client in the selection of an appropriate operator for the shipyard.

This is a First Marine International project
