Bangkok International Airport new satellite terminal building

Suvarnabhumi Airport (Bangkok International Airport) was in a situation where it was operating above capacity.
Bangkok International Airport new satellite terminal building

To accommodate growing tourism – a core pillar of Thailand’s economy – a new satellite building facility was required. NACO, a company of Royal HaskoningDHV, was a member of an international joint venture that designed an iconic, user-friendly airport facility to welcome international passengers to Thailand.

NACO’s team delivered a functional design for the 215,000m² satellite facility. We also provided airport planning, apron design and configuration expertise in collaboration with local partners Design 103i and MAA Thailand. The international design practice HOK was responsible for the architectural design concept.

This extra capacity will enable the airport to cope with an extra 15 million passengers a year through 28 contact gates, 8 of which are A380 & MARS compatible. The new satellite concourse is connected to the existing main terminal building via a tunnel under the existing cross taxiways. This tunnel holds the Baggage Handling System, Automated People Mover and Service Road links between the two passenger processing facilities.
